One panel down, the rest still working

When Your App Shows Blank Panels
Microinverter Replacement is panel-level work. Instead of one large inverter on the wall, many Scottsdale systems have a small inverter bolted to the rail under each panel, converting that panel's power on its own. The advantage is that one failure does not take down the whole system. The drawback is that the failed unit sits under a panel on the roof, often on concrete tile, and getting to it takes care.
How to tell a microinverter has failed
The monitoring app is usually the first clue. Each panel appears as its own tile, and a failed unit shows as gray, blank or zero while its neighbors report normal output. Other signs include a whole row of panels dropping out at once, which can point to a trunk cable or junction problem rather than the micros, or a gateway that has stopped reporting so every panel looks dead even though the system is still producing.
Check the communication first
Before anyone climbs up, we check the gateway or combiner that collects data from the microinverters. Many 'dead' systems are actually working fine and have just lost communication because of a router change, a Wi-Fi password, or interference on the home's wiring. Fixing that is fast and costs far less than replacing hardware.
Replacing the unit on a tile roof
Once we know which panels are affected, we plan a path across the tile to reach them, lift or tilt the panel off its clamps, disconnect and remove the failed microinverter, install a compatible replacement and reconnect it to the trunk cable. The panel is reclamped, tiles around the work area are checked, and the new unit is added to the monitoring system so it reports like the rest. If several units have failed or are likely to fail soon, replacing them during one visit saves on repeat roof time.
Warranty and compatibility
Many microinverters carry long manufacturer warranties, and a failed unit inside that period may be replaced at no cost for the part. We document the failure and serial numbers so you can submit a claim. Compatibility matters too: older models may no longer be made, and a newer replacement must work with your panels' power rating, your existing trunk cable and your gateway. When a mix of old and new is not supported, we explain the options before ordering.
Heat and the micros
Microinverters sit in the shaded gap under the panel, which is cooler than the panel surface but still very hot on a summer roof in Scottsdale. Good airflow under the array helps them last, which is one reason pigeon nesting and packed debris matter. During a replacement we clear the area and look for signs of heat stress on connectors.

Recording serial numbers, fault data and photos for a manufacturer claim.
Planned group replacement
Replacing several aging units in one visit when failures are spreading across the array.

What Sets the Price of Microinverter Replacement
| Factor | How it affects the estimate |
|---|---|
| Number of failed units | Each replacement needs its own part and roof time, though several in one visit share setup. |
| Warranty coverage | A unit under manufacturer warranty may have the part covered, leaving labor. |
| Model availability | Discontinued models can require a newer unit and sometimes a gateway update. |
| Roof access | Concrete tile, steep pitch and panels in the middle of the array take longer to reach. |
Ranges vary with the number of units, the model and the roof. Your written estimate is the price.
How Microinverter Replacement Works
1. Review the app
We look at panel-level data to see which units are down and for how long.
2. Check communications
The gateway and home network are tested to rule out a reporting problem.
3. Estimate and parts
You get a written price, and warranty claims are filed where they apply.
4. Roof swap
Failed units are replaced, connections checked and panels reclamped.
5. Confirm in the app
New units are added to monitoring and verified as producing.

Microinverter Replacement Questions
Is it worth replacing one microinverter?
Usually, yes, because that panel makes nothing until it is fixed. If the unit is under warranty, the part may be covered. Waiting until two or three have failed can save a trip, but every month costs that panel's output.
Why are all my panels showing zero?
When every panel drops out at once, the cause is more often the gateway, the home network or a tripped breaker than many microinverters failing together. Check the breaker and the gateway's lights first.
Can I mix old and new microinverters?
Sometimes. It depends on the manufacturer and whether the new model works with your trunk cable and gateway. We confirm compatibility before ordering.
How long does a replacement take?
A single unit on an accessible part of the roof is a short job. Panels in the middle of a large array on tile take longer because more panels may need to be lifted to reach them.
